Day and our Valentine Baskets Silent Auction a success! Our Board members and other volunteers worked very hard -- and
you, the public, responded. Special thanks to Susan Sutherland Barnes who created a beautiful webpage on our website,
and to Janet Flahaven who started in early January working on the events, and took care of all the last minute details
- including putting together our Chocolate Lover's Cookbook! ... to Cathy Couchman Akerman (Cate's Sweet Creations,

GALLERIES: Come in soon to see the current
exhibits which run through this Saturday, February 18, and include Celebrate Creativity by the Creative
Artists Guild of Southwestern Michigan; Gourd Art by Harold Harris; and You've Got to have Heart by
Jeanne Kaplan.
Opening on February 22 will be three new exhibits which run through April 7: in the Roti Roti Gallery, Art Underfoot, fiber art from the Michiana Traditional Rug Hookers;
in the ShowPlace Gallery, Relapse and Recovery, encaustic photo collage and sculpture by
David Wilkinson; and in the Hess Gallery, Carl Ferris Carvings.
Mark your calendars to attend an Artists’
Reception for all three exhibits on Sunday, February 26, from 2:00 – 4:00pm at the

CLOSING REMINDER: We will be closed from December 30, 2011 through January 8, 2012.
Our new floor will be installed in the Roti Roti Gallery, the White Gift Shop, and other, smaller rooms which are now
covered by tiles over 50 years old. We are grateful for donations from the St. Denys Foundation, and a
bequest from Kathryn Hess which have made the new floor a reality. GALLERIES! Beginning
January 11, visit us to experience not only a new floor but all new gallery exhibits: Celebrate Creativity” by the Creative
Artists’ Guild of Southwestern Michigan, Gourd Art by Harold Harris; and Graphite Art
by Vincent Purtha. A reception for the three exhibits will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012, from 2:00
to 4:00p.m. at the Center. The shows will close on February 18, 2012.

COMMUNITY EMPTY BOWLS WORKSHOPS.
The Annual Buchanan Empty Bowls Soup Supper will be held at Buchanan Middle
School on Friday, April 13, 4:00 - 8:30 pm. We hope that you will attend and purchase a bowl along with a simple soup
supper. Here are BAC workshop dates: WORKSHOPS are

GIFT SHOP: New and
unique items have been added to our gift shop recently, so remember to “shop locally” and support local artists
and your Art Center; surprise your family and friends with beautiful and one-of-a-kind gifts from our shop and/or gallery!
IN OUR GALLERIES: Pastel Pathways by the Northern Indiana Pastel Society in the Roti
Roti Gallery; Student-Faculty Show of mixed media in the Hess Gallery and Showcases. Both
shows close on December 29th. Several people have said our current exhibit is “one of
the best” we have had here, so if you are looking for a pastel painting, this is the place!
CLOSING FOR NEW FLOOR:
During the first week of January, we will be closed in order for our new floor to be installed ! Thanks
to Kathryn Hess’ bequest and St. Deny’s Foundation, we are able to have a new porcelain floor in all the areas
which were tiled many years ago. PREPARING FOR FLOOR:
In preparation for the new floor, we will be moving furniture on Friday, December 30 and 31.
If you are able to help in moving, please call the Art Center at 269-697-4005 and leave your name and phone number
and the date and time you can help. Once we have a list, we will call you back with a scheduled time.
CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE! Mark your calendar for CHOCOLATE DAY AT BAC on Saturday, February 11. From
10am – 4pm, we will amaze and dazzle you with all kinds of chocolate to sample, buy and just experience!
CHOCOLATE RECIPES: Do you have
a favorite chocolate recipe you’d like to share? Please email, fax, snail mail, or drop it off to
us, and we will incorporate it in a book. Be sure to include your name and phone number in case we have any questions.
We will publish your name with the recipe unless you tell us to withhold it. Deadline for recipes

THURSDAY MORNING DRAWING GROUP with Shirley Roti Roti & Friends
"Drawing from the Model" is usually Wednesday nights, but has been put off until March because of
winter weather. If you enjoy drawing and are looking for something fun to do instead or a new way to meet
and learn from other creative people, this is it!
The format is informal - no instructor, no model. The
emphasis will be on sharing ideas with other people who love to draw while working on your own projects. This is
an opportunity to hang out with art friends and soak up the creative energy!
There is no fee and no registration
requirement. You may drop in to draw when it fits your Thursday morning schedule. Bring your own art supplies.
Meets Thursdays, January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9,16, 23, March 1 and 8. 10 AM to Noon. FREE

Music of lovely selections performed by accomplished area musicians. Vocal, instrumental, hand bell, and
piano pieces include classical, holiday and sacred as well as other genres.

THE CHORAL SHOWCASE on Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00pm is presented
as a gift to the community from the Buchanan Art Center and sponsored this year by Dr. Richard and Cindy Beckermeyer.
The selections include both traditional and holiday music performed by the Southwestern Michigan College Select Voices
under the direction of David Carew, and the Buchanan High School Redbud Chorale under the direction of Sharon O’Brien.
The public is invited to attend the reception prior to the performance, and enjoy festive holiday table offerings.
