Fernwood Spring Bus Trip:
Kokomo Glass Tour
Friday, April 10, 7am-5pm
(Note: BAC members can go on this trip at Fernwood member prices)
About the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company: The discovery of hundreds of natural
gas wells in Indiana in the 1880s brought many entrepreneurs and glass factories to the area. This tour will visit one of
the oldest operating glass factories, the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company, who supplied stained glass to great artists such
as Louis Tiffany, J & R Lamb, and John LaFarge, and continues to make beautiful glass today. Watch the process of making
sheet glass, blown glass, and glass beads, then visit their OP Shop to purchase items produced by local artisans. After lunch
(on your own), we head to the Greentown Glass Museum to see a huge collection of glass products from the Indiana Tumbler and
Goblet Company, also known as Greentown Glass. Items produced at the glass factory, which burned down in 1903, are highly
collectible and sought after.
