WINTER 'TO DO' FUN LIST

BUCHANAN ART CENTER TO HOST

"MAKE A VALENTINE FOR OUR TROOPS"
SATURDAY WORKSHOP

DURING BUCHANAN'S THRILL ON THE HILL

On Saturday, January 31, 2015, the Buchanan Art Center will host a "Make a Valentine for Our Troops" workshop from 10-4 pm. Generously sponsored each year by the family of Al and Mary Ruth White, the workshop is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome to stop-in during downtown Buchanan's Thrill on the Hill festivities to warm-up and make a hand-crafted valentine to lift the morale of our military veterans. Valentines made will be mailed to area veteran hospitals; but can be mailed to specific military personnel if an address is furnished. All valentine-making materials will be supplied, and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Buchanan Art Center at 269.697.4005

Fernwood Spring Bus Trip: Kokomo Glass Tour
Friday, April 10, 7am-5pm

(Note: BAC members can go on this trip at Fernwood member prices)

About the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company: The discovery of hundreds of natural gas wells in Indiana in the 1880s brought many entrepreneurs and glass factories to the area. This tour will visit one of the oldest operating glass factories, the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company, who supplied stained glass to great artists such as Louis Tiffany, J & R Lamb, and John LaFarge, and continues to make beautiful glass today. Watch the process of making sheet glass, blown glass, and glass beads, then visit their OP Shop to purchase items produced by local artisans. After lunch (on your own), we head to the Greentown Glass Museum to see a huge collection of glass products from the Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Company, also known as Greentown Glass. Items produced at the glass factory, which burned down in 1903, are highly collectible and sought after.

BAC members should call 269.695.6491 to register, and tell the front desk they are BAC members: $72 (Fernwood and Buchanan Art Center Members $60)

Reservations must be made by March 27 to guarantee your seat on the bus, so call today!
